Happy at Home – Happy at Work – Happy!
If you are anything like me, you want to enjoy the people in your life, the work you do, the beauty and varied experiences of this world. These moments of our life are delicious and meant to be enjoyed, even savored. However, sometimes we have perhaps strayed from this joyful perspective because of beliefs, obligations or feeling stuck without clarity. How very sad that can be to lose out on the precious moments of our life.
No need to do that at all; I know for a fact. When my daughter was 16 and she and I were living together, I would come home from work/apprenticeship day full of tiredness, fear and even anger. Each day like a sacred ceremony she would simply ask in a loving tone, “Tell me 3 things that happened today that made you happy.”
I would grumble and snarl. She would kindly repeat, “Tell me 3 things that happened today that made you happy.” I worked so hard to find one and then I would blurt it out like a train engineer shouting, “All aboard.” I felt so done, drawing the line, enough, stamping my foot.
My daughter would say, “Good, 2 more.”
Every day we would do this routine till I could produce 3 things that made me happy that day and then, SURPRISE, I was happy. My snarly self had melted away under the thoughts of what was special, more important, more meaningful to my heart and soul.
I wish you the happiest of days today.
“Please tell me 3 things that happened today that made you happy.”
